Portland-based singer-songwriter Olivia Klugman is known for showcasing vividly honest storytelling with her extraordinary vocal ability. Her sound is reminiscent of the golden age of American Folk Music, but Olivia blends her classic folk influence with the modern, lyrical sensibilities of the 2020’s. Growing up amidst the "sea of evergreens" that is the Pacific Northwest, Olivia finds solace in nature and and seeks artistic inspiration in the wilderness. By combining this Thoreauvian solitude with a knack for internet-era pop culture, her fans have referred to her as a Gen Z Joni Mitchell.
Following the success of her debut EP Fire Alarm, Olivia will be releasing a series of new singles in the Spring and Summer of 2021. These songs chroniclesOlivia's struggle to make sense of a senseless world, and reflects her experience with queer identity, patriarchal expectations of womanhood, ambivalence in romantic relationships, and difficulty establishing adulthood in times that are anything but precedented. In a can’t-miss reference to the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Olivia hopes that her own creative, cathartic outcomes will also offer a much-needed emotional release for her listeners.
Olivia released her debut record Fire Alarm 6 months before the global pandemic hit. Thankfully, she was immediately booked to perform at various popular venues in the Portland area between the months of September and February. Her debut performance for the Fire Alarm release was at the Big Legrowlski, where she recently played for a second time on their socially distanced patio. In addition, she's taken the stage at Alberta St Pub, the Atlantis Lounge Songwriter Showcase, and a series of McMenamin's locations including the White Eagle Saloon, Blackberry Hall at Edgefield, and the Grand Lodge Hotel. Outside of Oregon, Olivia performed outdoors at the Limelight Hotel in Sun Valley, Idaho. She's scheduled to open for South Africa's Inspirational Soul Artist Tuelo in the fall of 2021, and is considering a tour along the West Coast once the country is safe again.
Love Song to a TurboTax Expert was originally written after a TurboTax employee from North Carolina helped Olivia, who dreads doing her taxes, painlessly prepare her 2020 tax return. Olivia was so relieved she wrote Shannon a love song and recorded it on TikTok. Although it was never intended to be an endorsement for TurboTax, when the company saw the video they immediately licensed the performance for the 2021 tax season and beyond. Within five days of posting across TurboTax Socials, Olivia's performance had over 3.1 million views.
